Founded in 2008 and led by Artistic Director and Choreographer Wen-Jen Huang, Seed Dance Company takes its name from the symbolism of a "seed"representing the freedom of growth and boundless possibilities. Under Huang’s leadership, the company has flourished, transcending traditional boundaries to cultivate a unique artistic language through continuous experimentation and nurturing.
Artistic Vision & Creative Philosophy Our creations transform life experiences into movement. From personal memories to social pulses, every element of existence serves as inspiration. At our core, we embrace a multi-dimensional approach, integrating physicality, visual arts, technology, and spatial design. By breaking the conventional framework of dance, we foster cross-disciplinary dialogues that result in performances rich in experimental tension and visual impact, inviting audiences to resonate with both the themes and themselves.
Local Roots & Artistic Education As a pivotal contemporary dance force in Southern Taiwan, Seed Dance Company is deeply committed to both professional excellence and community engagement. Through workshops, artist residencies, and local art initiatives, we strive to nurture the next generation of talent, ensuring that art takes root in the soil and blossoms within the hearts of the people.
Global Recognition & Milestones With a vision that extends far beyond local borders, the company frequently graces international stages and arts festivals. A definitive milestone was reached at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe with our production Lost Connection. Exploring the digital generation's interpersonal dynamics, the work stood out among over 3,000 shows to win the prestigious Broadway Baby "The Bobby Award," marking a significant chapter for Taiwanese contemporary dance.
Our Belief Seed Dance Company believes that every "seed" carries its own energy and story. Originating from Pingtung, we continue to sprout from our native soil and stretch our branches toward the world. We envision dance as a bridge and art as a force transcending language and geography to help people find resonance and inspiration across different eras and spaces.
